N.Y.-N.J. Port Authority takes control of Stewart International

N.Y.-N.J. Port Authority takes control of Stewart International The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey took control of Stewart International Airport Thursday.
   Officials from the agency will hold a joint news conference with New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and officials from local communities.
   The airport, located about 55 miles north of New Jersey, is expected to handle about 900,000-1 million passengers. It's also anticipated to grow rapidly under the port authority’s control.
   William R. DeCota, the authority's director of the aviation department, said the airport could play an important role in relieving congestion at the region’s airports, and become a center for air freight.
   Traffic at the John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty and LaGuardia airports are expected to grow from today's 107.5 million passengers to 125 million by 2015 and 150 million by 2025. Air cargo is expected to grow from 2.7 million tons to 4.2 million tons by 2025.
