Ports America executive joins Long Beach port    The Port of Long Beach has appointed shipping executive Sean Strawbridge as managing director of trade relations and port operations at, effective Jan. 31. The port authority said the Board of Harbor Commissioners approved his hiring on Monday.
   Strawbridge is director of corporate development at Ports America, the largest U.S. marine terminal operator and stevedoring company. He has almost a quarter-century of experience in the maritime and air transportation industries, holding positions in the areas of finance, sales, operations, and information technology.
   He previously worked at America West Airlines (now US Airways), Sea-Land Services Inc. (now part of Maersk line) and Marine Terminals Corp. (which was acquired by investors and renamed Ports America).
   'Sean is a highly respected leader in the maritime industry, and understands what it's going to take for the Port of Long Beach to stay competitive as we emerge from the recession,' Port Director Richard Steinke said a statement.
