O’Hare sees tonnage rise in November

A boom in overall freight helped boost results weighed down by poor express volumes.    Total cargo tonnage at Chicago O’Hare International Airport rose 11.76 percent in November to 153,354 tons, according to the Chicago Department of Aviation.
   The airport’s latest numbers, released last week, show total tonnage is up by 10.02 percent for the first 11 months of the year, when compared to the same period in 2013. This result is propped up by freight service, which experienced a 14.74-percent increase in November and a 10.88-percent increase for the year, and the year-to-date result for mail, which is up by more than 20 percent on 2013’s numbers. Total express traffic fell by more than 5 percent in November, falling of the yearly pace by 0.72 percent.
   For November, domestic freight and mail fell by 4.02 percent and 19.14 percent, respectively. For the year, however, freight and mail returned results up by 2.76 percent and 23.77 percent, respectively. Express was up by 3.57 percent for November, but down 1.93 percent on the year. In total, domestic cargo was off by 4.44 percent in November, but ahead of 2013’s pace by 3.75 percent on the year.
