Newsome named president Hapag-Lloyd (America)

Newsome named president Hapag-Lloyd (America) Jim Newsome will become president of Hapag-Lloyd (America) Inc. on Jan. 1.
Newsome, senior vice president of the Southeast, based in Kennesaw, Ga., will take over from current president Klaus Altstadt, who is retiring at the end of the year after more than 40 years at the company.
Hapag-Lloyd has a decentralized structure and the Hapag-Lloyd (America)’s office in Piscataway, N.J., is one of five regional headquarters around the world, responsible for operations in North America.

Stuart Rattray, senior vice president area west, based in Corte Madeira, Calif., will take over Newsome’s job in Kennesaw.
AXS Alphaliner ranks Hapag-Lloyd as the world's sixth-largest container shipping company, after Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping, CMA CGM, Evergreen and COSCO. Its owner, German tourism company TUI, recently agreed to sell the company to a Hamburg-based group of investors.
Prior to joining Hapag-Lloyd in 1997, Newsome was with Nedlloyd Lines from 1987 to 1997. Positions with that company included executive vice president of the Americas for Nedlloyd Lines and president of Nedlloyd Lines (USA) Corp. based in Atlanta. Prior to Nedlloyd, Newsome spent 10 years with Strachan Shipping Co., where he was president of their Hoegh Lines Agencies subsidiary in Jersey City and also held other positions in Houston and New York with that company.
