Tracy Morgan, Walmart settle over truck crash

Actor and comedian Morgan was severely injured when a Walmart truck collided with his limousine last summer.    Walmart on Wednesday reached a financial settlement with actor and comedian Tracy Morgan for injuries sustained in an accident involving a Walmart tractor trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike last year.
   According to the criminal complaint, truck driver Kevin Roper was accused of not sleeping for 24 hours before the crash after driving from his home in Georgia to begin his work assignment in Delaware. The truck crashed into the back of the former “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” stars’ limousine, severely injuring Morgan and killing a friend.
   Morgan filed suit, saying Walmart should have been aware of the driver’s condition.
   “Our thoughts continue to go out to everyone that was involved in the accident,” Walmart U.S. CEO Greg Foran said. “While we know there is nothing that can change what happened, Walmart has been committed to doing what’s right to help ensure the well-being of all those who were impacted by the accident…We are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved.”
   Terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but Morgan said in a statement, “Walmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.”
