Jeddah’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal receives four super post-Panamax cranes

The Middle Eastern transshipment hub port has completed its $35 million expansion project with the delivery of four new super post-Panamax cranes, the terminal stated via social media.    The Port of Jeddah’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) has received four super post-panamax quay ship-to-shore quay cranes, manufactured by China’s ZMPC, the terminal announced via social media channels on Wednesday.
RSGT said that the new cranes complete the port’s $35 million expansion project and will increase the capacity of the terminal by 50 percent to reach 2.5 million TEUs. The new cranes bring the terminal’s crane count to 12 super post-panamax quay cranes out of a total of 14, said RSGT.
The port expansion project also included 14 new rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) for the increased capacity the port is seeing due to larger container ships and its growing status as a transshipment hub.
According to industry news outlet Seatrade Maritime, the terminal’s managing director, Jens Floe, said, “By investing in our state-of-the-art infrastructure, we are further establishing Red Sea Gateway Terminal as one of the best equipped and most technologically advanced terminals on the Asia Europe trade lane.”
Thirteen direct container services currently call the RSGT terminal at Jeddah, according to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting. On those services, the OCEAN Alliance member carriers, Hapag-Lloyd, Maersk Line, CMA CGM and X-Press serve as vessel operators.
