Marine Exchange says boycott not too troublesome in L.A.-Long Beach    Marine Exchange of Southern California Executive Director Manny Aschemeyer reported Monday afternoon that a nationwide immigration protest led to minimal delays at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
   “Truck traffic is, as was to be expected, low on the freeways and at the ocean terminals’ gates,” Aschemeyer wrote in an e-mail. “The ILWU (International Longshore and Warehouse Union) continues to work the all ships, the docks, and the rail yards with no disruptions or delays. In calling around the port, we found that most terminal operators feel that some of the ‘slack’ will be taken up during the PierPass night gates, beginning at 6 p.m., when truck traffic is expected to be active and continuous. Most shippers planned for this event by draying their cargoes over the weekend. Likewise, several ocean carriers planned ahead as well, with some marine terminals vacant of ships.”
