DHL launches e-commerce parcel service in Australia

DHL’s eCommerce Singapore division has introduced a “hybrid” shipping product called Parcel International Direct Australia aimed specifically at online retailers in Singapore looking to expand their business in Australia.    DHL eCommerce Singapore has launched a “hybrid” shipping product aimed specifically at online retailers in Singapore looking to expand their business in Australia, the company said in a statement.
   The Parcel International Direct Australia service will leverage DHL’s extensive network partnerships in Australia to offer shipping and delivery of e-commerce parcels up to 20 kilograms in weight.
   The service offers transit times of four to six business days to all major Australian cities, and deliveries can be made to conventional home and business addresses, P.O. boxes, parcel lockers, and even remote locations at no additional charge. DHL eCommerce has found that unlike most major e-commerce markets, 40 percent of online retail deliveries in Australia are made outside of traditional metropolitan areas.
   The Australian cross-border e-commerce market is expected to grow more than 150 percent to $16.6 billion Australian (U.S. $12.6 billion), according to the Deutsche Post DHL Group subsidiary.
   “Consumers worldwide are increasingly expecting greater choice and convenience in their delivery options, and demanding greater visibility and reliability during the process,” said Malcolm Monteiro, CEO, Asia Pacific, DHL eCommerce. “In a recent DHL study, we found that over 59 percent of customers consider shipping costs, delivery time and choice of the delivery partner before making an online purchase.
   “As a result, e-tailing businesses and online sellers require more cost-effective and varied means to ship their products to remain competitive. Parcel International Direct Australia is a versatile shipping product that will help merchants expand their footprint in the online cross-border market.”
