Ambassador cautions against DR-CAFTA amendments The U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic warned Wednesday against any movement to seek legislative-level changes before voting on the Dominican Republic-Central American Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA), noting the Dominican lawmakers must vote the agreement up or down 'as agreed.'
   A report in Dominican Today said Ambassador Hans Hertell said there can be no changes to DR-CAFTA or to a separate piece of legislation covering the Government Purchases Law. A proposal to modify the Government Purchases Law has been submitted to the National Congress.
   Hertell said the bills must be approved 'as they were presented, and until they are, obviously we will not implement' the free trade agreement.
