The company said its ship was boarded in international waters in the Gulf of Aden by pirates Sunday evening. The crewmembers are four Russian officers and five Filipino Seamen.
The company said in a statement that the 3,480-deadweight-ton, multipurpose ship was carrying a knocked-down drilling rig from Mombasa, Kenya, to Constantza, Romania.
The shipowner said in a statement that it has been in contact with the vessel and “as far as we know there are no injuries and all crewmembers are treated well.” It added that relatives of the crewmembers have been informed and offered support.
The ship owners stressed their first priority was security of the crewmembers.
Headquartered in Winschoten, in the north of the Netherlands, Reider operates in the coasting trade, general cargo and container shipping. It operates about 25 ships ranging in size from about 3,000 to 18,700 dwt.
