Maersk testing waters at Cai Mep    Maersk Line has reportedly conducted a trial run of an 8,650-TEU vessel at a terminal in southern Vietnam's new deepwater port complex.
   The Danish container line tested a ship at PSA International's facility in the Cai Mep port complex, about two hours south of Ho Chi Minh City, according to the maritime news service Alphaliner.
   Maersk has been offering transshipment from Ho Chi Minh City via transshipment in Hong Kong, but is apparently intent on joining a host of other lines — notably members of the New World and CKYH alliances — offering direct connections through Cai Mep.
   According to American Shipper research affiliate ComPair Data, Maersk Line offers no direct services from Cai Mep to either North America or Europe.
   Significantly, Maersk terminal operating subsidiary APM Terminals is scheduled to open its own facility in Cai Mep later this year.
