PORT OF TACOMA WILL BUILD 237-ACRE TERMINAL FOR EVERGREEN    The Port of Tacoma said it plans to construct a 237-acre terminal with a capacity of 1.2 million TEUs, as part of an agreement with Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan).
   “We are pleased that the port has heard us, and we can continue serving our customers through the geographic location of Tacoma,” said Thomas Chen, president of Evergreen America Corp., which acts as an agent for Evergreen Marine Corporation.
   Superceding the Pierce County Terminal, located at the end of the 2.6 mile-long Blair Waterway, the new terminal will comprise two linear berths, each 2,260 feet long, a container yard, and a dedicated intermodal yard.
   Much of the Pierce County Terminal has been used for auto storage, which will be relocated to a new nearby dedicated auto facility.
   In Tacoma, Evergreen operates from a 75-acre facility at Terminal 4, also on the Blair Waterway.
