Port of Antwerp attracts new rail service to Germany

Rail operator H&S Container Line is launching a second trip between the Port of Antwerp and the Rhine-Ruhr-Main region in Germany.    Rail operator H&S Container Line will offer a second round trip service between the Port of Antwerp and the Rhine-Ruhr-Main region in Germany.
   The service will depart from two container terminals on the Duerganck dock in Antwerp to Andernach in Germany, the Port of Antwerp said.
   DB Cargo is supplying the traction for the service.
   H&S Container Line secured financial support from the Antwerp Port Authority, which launched its “Call for Proposals” last October to attract rail connectivity projects. Several other projects have been submitted for approval, including rail services from Antwerp to Ludwigshaven, Wanne Eickel and Mannheim.
   In 2015, a total of 64 million metric tons of freight was carried between Antwerp and Germany, making the Rhine-Ruhr and Rhine-Main regions among the most heavily industrialized in Germany, the port authority said. While most freight arrives in Antwerp by water, road and rail transport is encouraged through the Call for Proposals.
