U.S. Customs on Thursday announced a one month extension to begin mandatory filing in the new Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) of post-release documents for imported goods.
Traders now have until Oct. 29 to file liquidations, drawbacks, reconciliations, duty deferrals, collections, statements and automated surety interface forms in ACE instead of the legacy ACE.
The agency said it postponed the transition to ACE for these types of transactions to give the industry more time to make the transition to the new system.
ACE is the modern IT system developed for processing imports and exports, and communicating internally within the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, with other government agencies, and between agencies and traders regarding their shipments.
ACE is the backbone for the International Trade Data System, which will allow shippers and customs brokers to file paperwork one time and have it routed to multiple agencies that require it. President Obama has ordered all agencies to be ready to operate in the International Trade Data System by the end of the year.
