ITC: Chinese steel line pipe imports hurt U.S. makers The U.S. International Trade Commission determined Tuesday that imports of Chinese-made circular welded carbon quality steel line pipe injures U.S. makers.
   The Commerce Department earlier determined that the manufacture of this commodity is subsidized by the Chinese government.
   As a result of the ITC's affirmative determination, Commerce will issue a countervailing duty order on imports of this product from China.
   The countervailing duty investigation was requested earlier this year by Maverick Tube Corp. and Tex-Tube Co., both in Houston; and U.S. Steel Corp. and the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union, based in Pittsburgh.
   The ITC noted there are 10 U.S. producers of steel line pipe, with plants scattered across Alabama, Arkansas, California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington.
   The quantity of subject U.S. imports in 2007 included 236,358 short tons, valued at $154 million, the ITC said.
