IANA SECOND-QUARTER FIGURES SUGGEST BROADER FREIGHT RECOVERY    The Intermodal Association of North America has released second-quarter figures showing marked increases in freight movement.
   Rail intermodal volume rose 9.5 percent in the second quarter of 2002, with domestic containers increasing 12.6 percent, according to Greenbelt, Md.-based IANA.
   Total transportation revenue was up 8 percent, although highway revenue dipped 0.3 percent. While total loads were down from the second quarter of 2001, average revenue per intermodal load increased 13.9 percent and average revenue per highway load increased 0.3 percent.
   Comparisons with first-quarter 2002 also showed strong growth in the year’s second quarter. Total loads were up 13.8 percent, with intermodal loads up 12.7 percent and highway loads up 13.8 percent.
