U.S. air freight traffic fell by 3% in July

U.S. air freight traffic fell by 3% in July    The U.S. Air Transport Association reported a decrease of 3 percent in U.S. international freight and express traffic for July, to 919 million revenue ton-miles.
   This compares with a total volume of freight and express traffic of 947 million revenue ton-miles carried by association airline members on international flights in July 2002.
   While transpacific cargo volumes were up 1.3 percent in July, traffic dropped on the Latin and transatlantic routes.
   By contrast, international mail traffic increased by 6.2 percent in July, to 37 million ton-miles.
   Total international cargo traffic, including freight, express and mail, dropped by 2.6 percent, to 956 million ton-miles.
   The association also reported that total domestic cargo traffic, including freight, express and mail, increased by 4.7 percent in July, to 995 million ton-miles, thereby exceeding international traffic volume.
   U.S. Air Transport Association members include Alaska, Aloha, America West, American, American Trans Air, Continental, Continental Micronesia, Delta, Emery, Federal Express, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, United, UPS and U.S. Airways.
