Zhuhai port receives first batch of cranes The Hutchison Port Holdings-backed Zhuhai International Container Terminal on Monday said it received its first batch of container-handling equipment, with two post-Panamax cranes and six rubber-tire gantry cranes arriving.
   Zhuhai, until now a feeder port for containers on the southern tip of the west end of the Pearl River Delta (near Macau), plans to be a bigger player in international container transport, adding more capacity to a region that some analysts feel is already overdeveloped.
   The new terminal will ultimately have two container berths with eight quay cranes on 824 meters of berth, with 24 RTGs and 56 hectares of yard space.
   The first berth is to be open at the end of the year, with another batch of two quay cranes and six RTGS to be delivered. ZICT is a joint venture between Hong Kong-based Hutchison and the Zhuhai Port Enterprises Group.
