USAID to ship 22,800 metric tons of food aid to Kenya    The U.S. Agency for International Development will ship 22,800 metric tons of food aid to drought-stricken Kenya.
   USAID said the value of the food aid is $15.7 million, including commodity costs, ocean and inland transportation. The agency will provide food supplies, such as wheat, whole yellow peas, and vegetable oil, to Kenya through the World Food Program.
   “Recently, the failure of the short rain season further aggravated the drought in northern and eastern Kenya,” USAID said in a statement. “Where rains occurred, they began late, ended early and coverage was limited.”
   Since the Kenya drought emergency operation started in August 2004, USAID has provided 144,790 metric tons of emergency food aid, valued at $87.14 million.
