Port of Rotterdam plans for new wind energy terminal

The Port of Rotterdam Authority signed an agreement with Sif Group and Verbrugge International for the construction of a production, storage and handling terminal at the port designed to cater to the offshore wind farms market.    The Port of Rotterdam Authority has signed an agreement with Sif Group and Verbrugge International for the construction of a  production, storage and handling terminal on Maasvlakte2 that will cater to the offshore wind farms market, the port authority said in a statement.
The terminal will cover roughly 104 acres on land and the Port of Rotterdam Authority will build a 400-meter deep sea quay for Sif Group and Verbrugge.
Sif Group will produce large wind turbine foundations called “monopiles” at the terminal for offshore wind farms and the oil and gas industry.
The logistics provider Verbrugge will handle the sea-going vessels for the export of the monopiles at the terminal, which is expected to be operational in mid-2016.
The offshore wind farms market is developing rapidly in Great Britain, Germany, Belgium and France, which is expected to lead growth in offshore wind farms in the coming years, according to the Port of Rotterdam.
