IAG Cargo strengthens Latin American presence

The airfreight carrier will add three new routes on its Latin America network that are expected to be particularly beneficial to pharmaceutical shippers.    IAG Cargo will launch three new routes on its Latin America network between April and May of 2016, the company said.
   The airfreight carrier will launch flights from London Gatwick to San Jose, Costa Rica starting April 27. The service will operate two times a week with a British Airways B777-200ER, which offers a cargo payload of up to 18 tons per flight.
   Flights from London Gatwick to Lima, Peru will commence May 4. The service will operate three times a week and will also be serviced by a British Airways B777-200ER.
   IAG Cargo will launch flights from Madrid to San Juan, Puerto Rico May 15. The service will operate three times a week with an Iberia Airbus A330-200, which offers a cargo payload of up to 15 tons per flight.
   The airfreight carrier anticipates the new routes will be particularly beneficial to pharmaceutical shippers, as Latin America is an important high-growth market for this trade.
   “These new flights will give customers more capacity, flexibility and choice when it comes to shipping goods to Latin America,” IAG Cargo Regional Commercial Manager, Latin America Rodrigo Casal said in a statement. “In May 2016, IAG Cargo will now offer customers a weekly lift of up to 2,700 tonnes into Latin America. There has been no direct air-link between the UK and Lima since 1982 and with our ability to offer direct flights from our two European hubs, we now offer unrivalled flexibility for businesses looking to connect with Peru, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.”
   IAG Cargo, which is the cargo handling division of the International Airlines Group, covers a network of over 350 destinations.
