The indictments charge separate attacks by separate groups on the USS Nicholas on March 31 and the USS Ashland on April 10. The Nicholas is an Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate homeported in Norfolk, Va. The Ashland is a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship home-ported in Little Creek, Va.
The two indictments were returned last week and were unsealed when the defendants made their initial appearances before a magistrate judge in Norfolk.
