Evergreen orders 10 ships from Taiwan Yard

   Evergreen Group ordered and signed a contract with China Shipbuilding Corp. on Friday for 10 addition 8,000-TEU L-class containerships.
   It is the third time Evergreen has ordered L-class ships. Evergreen ordered 20 of the L-class ships from Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries Co. last July and September.
   It is the first order Evergreen has placed with Taiwan-based China Shipbuilding since 1997.
   The ships feature fuel-saving and environmental features that Evergreen has included on its new ships for several years, including tin-free coatings, environment friendly materials to prevent marine pollution and meet “green passport” requirements for ship recycling, the ability to use shore generated electricity when in port, and an enlarged marine gas oil tank so the ship can comply with requirements to burn low sulfur fuel in emission control areas.
   The contract was signed by Bronson Hsieh, Evergreen vice group chairman, and Tang Tay-Ping, chairman of China Shipbuilding.
