MOL Tribute sets loading record with 19,190 TEUs

The record-setting stow took place at the PSA Singapore terminal on the ultra large containership’s westbound departure to North Europe.    The One Network Express-operated ultra large containership MOL Tribute set a stowage record Monday with 19,190 TEUs loaded onto the vessel.
   The record stow — which surpassed the previous mark of 19,038 achieved by Maersk’s Mumbai Maersk in August — took place at the PSA Singapore terminal on the ship’s westbound departure to North Europe. The MOL Tribute, which became ONE’s first ship to eclipse the 19,000 TEUs threshold, is deployed on the company’s Far East Loop 2 service in THE Alliance.
   “It was good timing to make such a record because we had so many shipments/cargos before Chinese New Year,” wrote Yosuke Hotta, who works in planning and administration of communication for ONE, in an email Friday.
   Prior to MOL Tribute, which has a total capacity of 20,146 TEUs, ONE had completed two other record stows in the last two calls at PSA Singapore, including 18,767 TEUs by MOL Tradition in December, according to ONE.
   Navis, which provided the stowage planning software, announced the record.
   “As vessel sizes increase, so too do the complexities associated with safe and effective stowage planning,” said Kunihiko Nishimura, general manager of global vessel operations for ONE, in Navis’ press release. “With the help of Navis and PSA Singapore, we were able to accomplish a tremendous feat — not only planning, but successfully executing a vessel call with more than 19,100 containers on board.”
