U.S. exporters seek more time to comment on CCL review

U.S. exporters seek more time to comment on CCL review Three Washington-based trade groups, which represent the policy and regulatory interests of U.S. exporters, have asked the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security for a 30-day extension to provide comments for the agency's Commerce Control List review.
BIS originally set the comment deadline at Sept. 17.
The CCL covers a broad range of U.S.-made technologies, software and commodities which may have both commercial and military applications. These items are enumerated by the agency's Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs).
Changes are regularly made to the CCL to reflect revisions in the control lists of multilateral export control regimes, such as the Wassenaar Arrangement, Missile Technology Group Regime, Australia Group, and Nuclear Suppliers' Group.
'BIS is depending on exporters to make specific suggestions on the CCL content and the process for future updates,' said Edmund Rice, president of the Coalition for Employment Through Exports, in a memo to the Export Controls Working Group. 'For any given ECCN or industry sector, if exporters do not take advantage of this opportunity, it will be very hard to criticize the control list for the foreseeable future.'
The other two association members of the working group are the National Foreign Trade Council and Industry Coalition on Technology Transfer.
