JAXPORT to gain new auto processing terminal

The new terminal is the first phase of a multi-year project that will boost the North Florida port’s vehicle handling capacity by 25 percent, according to officials from the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT).    The Port of Jacksonville in northern Florida is set to begin construction on a new automobile processing terminal, the South Atlantic port revealed Wednesday.
   The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) is awarding contracts now for the new automobile processing terminal, and the terminal is expected to be complete by late 2018, a JAXPORT spokesperson told American Shipper.
   This new terminal is the first phase of a multi-year project that will boost the port’s vehicle handling capacity by 25 percent.
   The continued growth of the port’s three auto processors – AMPORTS, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics and Southeast Toyota Distributors – and the port’s location in the heart of the nation’s fastest growing consumer market have fueled demand for vehicle space at JAXPORT, the port said.
   During the port’s 2017 fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, JAXPORT moved the most vehicles in its history at 693,000 total units.
