PORT OF HALIFAX POSTS TONNAGE INCREASE IN 2001    The Port of Halifax has announced that total cargo tonnage in 2001 was more than 14 million tons, up from 13.94 million tons in 2000.
   Of that amount, bulk cargo accounted for 9.2 million tons. Container cargo comprised 4.41 million tons, or 542,000 TEUs.
   Last year, the port earned a net income of Can $5.7 million ($3.6 million) on revenues of    Can $18.3 million ($11.5 million), despite “the general economic climate prevailing in 2001, particularly in the second half,” said Karen Oldfield, the port’s recently appointed president and chief executive officer. Capital expenditures totaled Can $9.2 million ($5.8 million).
   The Port of Halifax is officially a “government business enterprise” mandated by the Federal Minster of Transport.
