A committee of Israel's Ministry of Transport has authorized the sale of government shares in the port to a single or group private investors from Israel or abroad, according to the Israel-based news outlet Port2Port.
The government is also interested in selling 15 percent stakes in its two key Mediterranean seaports, Haifa and Ashdod. While Eilat's primary cargo is automobile imports and potash and phosphate exports, Haifa and Ashdod are Israel's two largest container ports.
