Mitsubishi LNG facility advances in Long Beach    The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has voted to approve a letter of intent that gives a subsidiary of Japan-based Mitsubishi Corp. exclusive rights to develop a $400 million liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Port of Long Beach.
   Sound Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi, has proposed building a LNG receiving terminal and re-gasification facility on 27 acres at Pier T Berth 126, also known as Pier Echo, on Terminal Island.
   The facility would handle the equivalent of 68.3 million barrels of LNG a year. Most of the natural gas would be distributed in Southern California.
   The next step is for Sound Energy Solutions to seek approval from the Federal Energy Regulation Commission, which will assess the environmental impact of the proposed LNG facility. FERC’s review is expected to take two years.
