U.S. to provide $200 million to Haiti

U.S. to provide $200 million to Haiti Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice said Wednesday the U.S. government plans to provide an additional $200 million in aid to Haiti to enhance security and spur private sector growth.
   Rice made the remarks after a Washington meeting with Haitian Prime Minister Jacques-Edouard Alexis, who had come to Washington to meet with Rice about Haiti's progress.
   'When one thinks back on the very difficult circumstances of just a few years ago, it is remarkable. The government is making good progress on behalf of its people, doing so in partnership with the international community,' Rice said, according to a State Department transcript of public remarks she made after the private meeting.
