Kingston Container Terminal to expand to 2.2 million TEUs capacity    The Jamaican government’s Ministry of Information and Development Monday awarded a $2.5 billion contract to E. Phil and Sons to expand Kingston Container Terminal.
   The initial plans are for an upgrade in capacity to 2.2 million TEUs from 1.6 million TEUs, and include the paving of about 10 hectares of container yard space and installation of underground services.
   “The Port Authority of Jamaica has determined that there is need to increase the container storage capacity at the terminal, as by December it would become critical. This project is expected to ensure that the present congestion at our port is eased,” said Senator Colin Campbell, Minster of Information and Development.
   The final design for the expansion project is expected to be completed this month.
