U.S. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LAUNCHES PORT/TRADE STUDY

U.S. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LAUNCHES PORT/TRADE STUDY    The United States Chamber of Commerce has begun a 14-month study that will forecast imports and exports by major cargo types and the future impact on the capabilities of North American ports and associated rail and road systems.
   The study team will be headed by James Burnley, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation.
   The study will be conducted by TranSystems Corp.; the Texas Transportation Institute Center for Ports and Waterways; the University of New Orleans National Ports and Waterways Institute; and Norbridge, a leading maritime econometric consulting firm.
   The study will include recommendations for action by the public and private sectors to enable the U.S. transportation infrastructure to keep pace with projected trade growth over the next two decades. It will also recommend possible funding sources.
