Milaha acquires 3,768-TEU containership

Th Qatar-based maritime transport and logistics conglomerate acquired the Majd, its largest containership to date.    Milaha Maritime, a Qatar-based maritime transport and logistics conglomerate, has acquired its largest containership to date, the 3,768-TEU Majd, the company confirmed Monday.
The new vessel will be one of the 17 containerships that the group operates, and is part of the ongoing expansion of the group’s overall fleet.
Milaha currently fully owns and operates a fleet of over 80 vessels, including liquefied natural gas and product tankers, offshore support vessels, container and bulk vessels, among other vessel categories.
“We are pleased to add Majd to our growing fleet in the few coming weeks,” Milaha President and CEO Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai said in a prepared statement. “The new vessel is part of our strategy to optimize our container shipping network with larger tonnage to meet increasing customer demand for capacity and cost efficiency in a highly competitive market.”
The plan, he said, is to phase the Majd into the company’s existing network, and the vessel would gradually replace smaller tonnage.
The Qatar-flagged Majd, which was built by STX Shipbuilding in South Korea, has an overall length of 246.87 meters (nearly 810 feet) and a deadweight of 44,985 metric tons.
The Majd operated under the name HS Chopin in the past.
