The containership CSCL Jupiter, which ran aground yesterday morning near the Port of Antwerp, blocking vessel traffic in the area, has successfully been refloated.
The CSCL Jupiter was freed around 9:00 p.m. local time Monday and is back in Antwerp for inspection, Annik Dirkx, a spokesperson at the Port of Antwerp told American Shipper.
As far as the vessel backlog goes, Dirkx said no more ships are waiting for the left bank. For the right bank, all ships wanting to enter the port have been planned, but might have to wait a couple hours before they can move.
“It’s going to be a busy day today, but less than 24 hours after the incident, the situation is almost back to normal and ships can sail in and out of the port,” Dirkx said.
According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting, the 14,074-TEU containership is operated by COSCO, which merged with fellow state-run line China Shipping (CSCL) last year, and serves the Asia-Europe trade on the OCEAN Alliance’s FAL7/AEU7. In addition to COSCO, other OCEAN Alliance members include CMA CGM, OOCL, APL and Evergreen Line.
