The 519-TEU containership “Jade” Tuesday will replace the lift-on/lift-off vessel “Pine Valley,” which has a capacity for 245 TEUs, when it departs Port Everglades before arriving Friday in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
The “Jade” will join Crowley’s regular 600-TEU vessels, “Sea Gale” and “Sea Cloud,” which depart from Jacksonville on Tuesdays and Port Everglades every Thursday.
“This will give customers cargo availability Saturday morning and will also allow an earlier arrival to the company’s connecting feeder islands services,” Crowley said in a statement.
The service makes additional direct calls in St. Croix, Trinidad, Barbados and St. Vincent. Additionally, Crowley provides service to the islands of Anguilla, Montserrat, Nevis, Saba, St. Barts, St. Eustatius, St. John, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Bermuda, Canouan, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Tobago via relay service.
Florida 1041 Tampa meeting to address ID cards
The Tampa Port Authority has set up an information briefing October 25 with senior managers from the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV), who will answer questions about the implementation of the Florida Uniform Port Access Credential (FUPAC).
The Florida ID credential is a pioneering local version of the federally mandated Transportation Workers Identity Credentials (TWIC) that will be used in major ports beginning January 1, 2008. Florida ID cards, which will be uniform for all ports in the state, will already by in place before that time.
The FUPAC meeting, which is open to all members of the Tampa maritime community, begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25 at Cruise Terminal 6 behind the Tampa Port Authority headquarters building.
