CargoSmart develops business process outsourcing

   CargoSmart, a shipping and logistics software as a service (SaaS) platform provider, has launched a new business processing outsourcing service for ocean carriers and logistics service providers.
   The Virtual Business Center will monitor business activities with a new toolset and then manage documentation processes and sailing schedule maintenance for customers. The center digitizes shipping instructions in a range of formats and can generate electronic bills of lading and better share documents.
   CargoSmart said the new service will allow companies to improve customer service, increase operational efficiency, and save costs. Specifically, the company said the service will help LSPs and carriers by consolidating documents, improving data accuracy, and eliminating manual processes and rekeying.
   In the company’s announcement, it said OOCL and Geodis Wilson are the first to outsource their data management with CargoSmart’s system.
   Geodis Wilson, one of the world’s largest freight forwarders, will use the service to supplement its existing data management. The company will also use the center’s pro-forma and up-to-date sailing schedules for carriers which it validates through systems from terminals, port agents, and other sources.
   Liner carrier OOCL has outsourced its documentation processes and sailing schedule maintenance to CargoSmart’s Virtual Business Center. OOCL said it wanted to consolidate its documentation services and standardize the practice.
   CargoSmart said its Virtual Business Center currently processes more than 12,000 shipping instructions from carriers each week and puts all of their shipping instructions into a single format.
