TFI International buys World Courier Ground U.S.

Alain Bédard, chairman, president and chief executive officer of TFI International, formerly known as TransForce, said the acquisition diversifies the company into the medical last mile business.    A wholly-owned subsidiary of TFI International Inc., formerly known as TransForce Inc., has acquired World Courier Ground U.S., the U.S. ground transportation division of World Courier, from AmerisourceBergen Corporation.
   Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
   TFI International said that while integrated under the Dynamex umbrella, current World Courier Ground management will continue to operate the business under the new name TForce Critical.
   Based out of Montreal, Quebec, TFI International operates across the U.S., Canada and Mexico through its subsidiaries to provide services in four segments: package and courier, less-than-truckload, truckload and logistics services.
   World Courier Ground U.S. is an asset light, time critical courier and logistics provider that operates nationally across the U.S. A variety of services are offered by World Courier Ground U.S. including same day courier, rush trucking and warehousing services primarily to the medical industry, as well as to the environmental, financial, chemical and industrial sectors.
   “World Courier Ground is a strategic fit for our package and courier business in the U.S. and diversifies us into the important medical last mile business,” TFI International Chairman, President and CEO Alain Bédard said. “This is another example of how TFI International is selectively expanding its U.S. footprint.”
   TFI International changed its corporate name from TransForce in December 2016 “to reflect the increased geographic scope of its operations,” the company said. The name change was approved by shareholders on Dec. 23 and the company’s shares began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the name TFI International (stock symbol TFII) on Dec. 30.
   TFI International has made various acquisitions recently. In December, TFI International announced the acquisition of National Fast Freight, and in October, the company announced the purchase of the North American truckload operation of XPO Logistics. Both of these acquisitions were made through a wholly-owned subsidiary of TFI International.
