BAX Toledo hub gets $3.4 million grant    The U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration on Friday said it will award a $3.4 million grant for improvements to a BAX Global cargo hub at Toledo Express Airport in Ohio.
   The grant will help cover the cost to expand the sorting facility and enlarge the doors to accommodate widebody cargo planes. A cross-dock door will be installed to expedite the handling of air-to-truck and truck-to-air cargo, which will decrease inventory storage, said the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority.
   The port authority said the project will cost about $7.2 million and is to take 12 to 18 months to complete. The remaining project funding comes from a $1 million contribution from BAX Global, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG, and the remaining $2.8 million comes from the Ohio Department of Development in the form of a “logistics and distribution stimulus grant.”
   BAX Global leases a 300,000-square-foot facility, including 4,500 square feet for cold storage, from the Toledo Express Airport. BAX Global operates about 20 domestic and international flights daily on which it provides capacity to freight forwarders.
