ZIM starts sensitive cargo monitoring service

Liner carrier ZIM’s new service aims at monitoring temperature and security of sensitive containerized cargo, with the package particularly suited the pharmaceutical industry.    The liner carrier ZIM has started a new monitoring, tracking and security services package for shippers of valuable and sensitive cargo stowed in reefer containers.
   The service, called ZIMonitor, allows shippers to monitor the status of their cargo, change settings remotely and intervene to prevent damages. Customers can configure the product to get alerts and automatic reports via mobile or email on temperature, humidity, route deviation and unauthorized door opening. The service also includes support from a dedicated response team.
   ZIM said in a statement the system was pilot tested with a global pharmaceutical company. The company added the service is particularly suited to the pharmaceutical industry, but is also applicable for shippers of medical lab equipment, aviation products, perishable foods, wines and alcoholic beverages, agriculture products, electronics, and art work and antiques.
   Container tracking and monitoring for sensitive or perishable cargo is also offered by a host of independent providers.
