Marine environment seminar planned in Washington May 21 A marine environment seminar will be held on May 2 in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with National Maritime Day
   “The Environmental Imperative: Accelerating Solutions,” is the name of the event, which will be held at the Rayburn House Office Building at 4 p.m. The seminar is being presented by the North American Maritime Ministry Association (NAMMA), North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) and the American Salvage Association (ASA).
   Clay Maitland, founding chairman of NAMEPA will moderate a panel featuring Rep. Elijah Cummings; Vice Adm. Vivien Crea, vice commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard; Maritime Administrator Sean Connaughton; Gregory Linsin, Blank Rome LLP partner; Greg Binion, Kirby Corp. vice president; John Witte, Donjon Marine executive vice president; Kathy Metcalf, director of the Chamber of Shipping of America; and the Rev. James Von Dreele, vice president of NAMMA.
   The two-hour panel discussion will explore the role of government in protecting the marine environment, the enforcement of regulations, the safeguarding of industry, commercial solutions and tools, a call for cooperation amongst the stakeholders, legal challenges and the human factor.
