ACI: Airfreight volumes soar in February

Airports Council International attributed February’s 7.8 percent year-over-year increase in airfreight volumes to Chinese New Year.    Global airport cargo volumes surged 7.8 percent in February from a year prior, according to Airports Council International (ACI).
   The trade association of the world’s airports reported that international freight experienced a greater growth rate than domestic freight at 9.6 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively.
   ACI attributed the increased freight volumes to Chinese New Year, with Hong Kong, Shanghai-Pudong, Seoul-Incheon, and Tokyo-Narita airports reporting between 11 percent and 20 percent traffic gains each.
   ACI also reported that of the top 20 international airports in terms of airfreight volumes, 17 experienced year-over-year growth for February, including Miami at 7.8 percent, Frankfurt at 2.2 percent, Doha at 24.5 percent, Los Angeles at 8 percent and Amsterdam at 7 percent.
