Pacific International Lines joining Wan Hai transpacific service

Pacific International Lines joining Wan Hai transpacific service Singapore-based shipping line Pacific International Lines will next month become a vessel operator in the transpacific market when it joins the weekly China Trans-Pacific Service (CTP 1) service of Taiwan's Wan Hai Lines.
   PIL will contribute one of five 2,500-TEU ships to the service, effective March 17, and said there are plans to introduce larger capacity vessels to the service in the near future.
   Wan Hai Lines has operated the service independently since mid-2001. The CTP 1 has a port rotation of Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Long Beach, Oakland and back to Xiamen.
   PIL also takes slots between the Far East and Canada on the CKYH Alliance's weekly PNW/NOWCO-A loop, which it markets as the Canadian Transpacific Express (CTX).
   Founded in 1967, PIL has grown from a coastal ship operator to become one of the largest private ship owners and operators in Asia with a fleet of more than 100 vessels. It is ranked 19th among container ship operators in the world.
