' Burlington, Mass.-based Logistics.com said the deal is its largest ever. Georgia-Pacific's building products division will process an estimated 550,000 shipments annually through the system, which will be used at 140 U.S. sites and thousands of end users.
OptiManage will provide Georgia-Pacific, its customers and other trading partners with supply chain management features including freight monitoring, appointment scheduling, shipment notifications and Web-based tracking and tracing of shipments.
Implementation of the OptiManage system is underway, and through application service provider delivery, Logistics. Com expects the initial group of Georgia-pacific plants to be online by the beginning of the third quarter.
'Our ASP delivery and powerful features lower the risks and eliminate the large up-front cash requirements, delivery immediate return on expenses,' said John Lanigan, president and chief executive officer of Logistics.com.
The application will be fully integrated with Georgia-Pacific's proprietary order-management system.
'The hosted Web architecture eliminates capital expenditure, and allows us to begin enjoying savings faster than any other TMS software,' said Robert T. Pugh, vice president of transportation for Georgia-Pacific's building products division.
OptiManage handles real-time exceptions that occur within the supply chain with automated actions that eliminate the need for human intervention. This capability generates savings by minimizing the need to pay premium 'spot' rates to a contingency carrier, and by making transportation managers more productive and able to focus on mission-critical issues.
