Begeman nominated for second STB term

President Obama has sent his nomination of Ann Begeman for a second five-year term on the U.S. Surface Transportation Board to the Senate floor, according to a statement from the White House.    President Barack Obama nominated Ann Begeman for a second five-year term on the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB), according to a statement from the White House.
   Begeman’s nomination now goes to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation before it moves to the Senate floor for confirmation.
   Prior to her initial appointment to the STB in 2010, Begeman served in several roles on Capitol Hill, including Republican staff director for the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; acting chief of staff and legislative director for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.; and a legislative assistant to former Sen. Larry Pressler, R-S.D.
   She is credited with playing a key role in the formation of several pieces of transportation legislation, most notably the ICC Termination Act, which created the STB.
   Begeman’s current term expired Dec. 31, 2015, but the STB’s governing statute permits a member to serve up to one year after the expiration of the original term absent the appointment of a successor. If confirmed, her new term will run through Dec. 31, 2020.
