LOS ANGELES INBOUND CONTAINERS UP 22% IN APRIL    The port of Los Angeles confirmed the strong upswing in transpacific eastbound volumes in April by reporting a 22-percent jump in the number of loaded inbound containers handled during that month by the port’s terminals.
   Inbound traffic amounted to 258,026 TEUs in April, up from 210,723 in April of 2001.
   Loaded outbound containers from Los Angeles, consisting mainly of U.S. exports to Asia, rose by 3 percent in April, to 91,114 TEUs.
   Including empty containers, the port of Los Angeles handled a total of 484,299 TEUs in April, up 16 percent from the 417,421 TEUs moved in April of last year.
   The port of Long Beach recently reported that its inbound container cargo climbed by 12.5 percent in April, to 227,953 TEUs, while loaded outbound containers increased by 15 percent, to 87,961 TEUs.
