PSA Singapore orders 79 Doosan RTGs worth S$160 million

PSA Singapore orders 79 Doosan RTGs worth S$160 million PSA Singapore Terminals, operators of the world's largest container transshipment hub, on Tuesday signed a contract for 79 rubber-tired gantry cranes from South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction at a cost of S$160 million ($118 million).
   The RTGs, which are equipped with energy-saving devices to help reduce fuel usage, will be used at PSA's new berths at Pasir Panjang Terminal (PPT).
   'PSA Singapore Terminals has seen steady growth of 12.1 percent in the first quarter of 2008, year-on-year. We will continue to invest in world-class port facilities and equipment to ensure that we retain our value as an attractive hub port of choice to the shipping lines,' said Kuah Boon Wee, PSA chief executive officer for Southeast Asia and Singapore terminals.
   In 2007, PSA Singapore Terminals handled 27.1 million TEUs, while its multipurpose terminals moved 18 million tons of breakbulk and specialized cargo and more than 1 million vehicles.
