MOL names iron ore carrier

MOL names iron ore carrier Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. Today said it has named a bulk iron ore carrier, which will sail under a long-term transport contract with Nippon Steel Corp.
   The 'Brasil Maru,' built by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., is the world's largest iron order carrier, according to MOL. The 323,000 deadweight-ton ship is 340 meters long, 60 meters wide and has a draft of 21 meters.
   The ship is expected to haul about 1.4 million tons of iron ore from Brazil to Nippon's major mills, including Oita and Kimitsu, starting in December, MOL said.
   The carrier said the bulk ship is the company's third to carry the 'Brasil Maru' name. The other ships, built in 1939 and 1954, were cargo and passenger liners that served the Japan/South America route.
