SCT commissions mobile crane for new feeder berth    Southampton Container Terminals Ltd. in the United Kingdom, today held a commissioning ceremony for a 100-ton mobile harbor crane to be used at a new dedicated feeder terminal.
   Work started last month on Berth 203, adjacent to the current four deepwater berths at SCT. The new berth has been designed to accommodate feeder vessels of up to 150 meters (492 feet) in length. The mobile crane will be operated on a 24-hour, seven days a week basis.
   “SCT is keen to grow the number of feeder services operating here, and the mobile harbor crane is a clear sign that it has the equipment capability as well the commitment to take this forward,” said Robert Woods, SCT’s chairman.
   “This is an important step in growing the volume of feeder services operating from Southampton and represents an investment by SCT in excess of '1.8 million ($2.3 million),” said Patrick Walters, SCT’s managing director.
   SCT is jointly owned by DP World (51 percent) and Associated British Ports (49 percent).
