VancouverÆs box volume rises 25% in 2006 The Port of Vancouver, British Columbia, handled 2.2 million TEUs in 2006, up 25 percent from 1.8 million TEUs in the previous year.
   Loaded inbound containers increased 31 percent to 1.1 million TEUs, from 857,225 TEUs in 2005. Loaded outbound containers totaled 762,388 TEUs, up 9 percent from 668,665 TEUs. Empties jumped 34 percent to 324,580 TEUs, from 241,489 TEUs in the prior year.
   Total tonnage at the Canadian port in 2006 rose 4 percent to 79.3 million tons.
   'Canada enjoyed strong growth in most commodities in 2006, with continued high Asian demand for Canadian exports,' said George Adams, chairman of the Vancouver Port Authority. 'This trend is expected to continue in 2007, and it will be important for the VPA to concentrate on building its cooperative relationships with stakeholders to meet demand for growth and efficiency.'
