Samskip acquires new reefer containers

Bound for the North Atlantic trade, 96 new reefer container were delivered to Samskip in Rotterdam with additional reefers to be delivered by June 5.    Rotterdam based multimodal container transport and logistics company Samskip has acquired 150 new 40-foot refrigerated (reefer) containers for use in the North Atlantic.
   Built by Chinese box-builder CIMC Taicang, 96 of the new containers were delivered to the Rotterdam Shortsea Terminals via the Danser Benelux barge Vectura. The remaining containers are due to arrive in Rotterdam by June 5.
   Each of the new units includes a Thermo King Magnum Plus generator set, designed for long-distance transportation of deep frozen, frozen, chilled or heated cargoes, within temperatures ranging between -30 degrees and +30 degrees Celsius, said Samskip.
   The new containers are bound for Reykjavik, for introduction into Samskip service rotations connecting Iceland and the Faroe Islands to the UK and North Continental Europe, said the company.
   In addition to these 150 new reefer units, Samskip recently received 51 45-foot reefer containers and deployed them in its multimodal service network earlier this month. The company also invested in new reefer container capacity last year and introduced web-based track and trace for temperature-controlled cargoes.
